UPDATE: Suspect arrested in Ellendale homicide investigation

6/5 UPDATE: Delaware State Police have arrested a suspect in connection to this homicide.

Through further investigation, troopers identified the suspect as 26-year-old Tyja Best, who was taken into custody on Tuesday. She has been charged with first degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and is currently being held at SCI on a $1,060,000 cash bond.

Police have also identified the victim as 27-year-old Brian Halliday.

ELLENDALE, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in Ellendale Saturday night.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., troopers were called to a residence on the 13000 block of South Old State Road for a report of a shooting. When troopers arrived, they found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest in the front yard and began life-saving efforts. The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation revealed that during an altercation between the victim and a female, the female produced a gun and shot him in the chest. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The Homicide Unit is actively investigating this incident.
