Multiple departments respond to large cover fire on Old Wye Mills Road

WYE MILLS, Md. – Saturday afternoon the Cordova Volunteer Fireman’s Association, along with several other agencies, responded to a large natural cover fire on Old Wye Mills Road.

As much as 30 acres of standing wheat were affected by the blaze, with the fire possibly extending into the woods.

Talbot County Sheriff’s Deputies also responded to the incident, helping to evacuate several homes nearby.

Conditions in the area were reported to be extremely smoky with poor visibility. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area if possible.
