Milford moving forward with water tower project
MILFORD, Del. – The City of Milford is moving forward with plans to construct a new water tower.
The city council recently approved $60,000 for the preliminary design process. The 300,000 gallon water tower would be built along Churchill Road, between Route 14 and Route 15.
Officials say that identifying and installing additional wells and water storage was a major goal with the construction of the Milford Corporate Center.
“The [purpose of] tank is pretty much twofold: One is for fire protection, and the other one is to provide water pressure. Right now in that northeast section of the city, we have some water pressure issues,” said Milford City Manager Mark Whitfield.
It’s estimated that the water tower project will take about 2 years to complete. Officials said it would cost about $7,000,000 in total.
If the town does move forward from the planning and design stage it would require a referendum voted on by Milford residents. Whitfield said any time the city borrows more than $500,000 over a 5-year period or longer, they are required to send it to referendum.
