MERR institute hosting a World Ocean Day Celebration

 

LEWES, DEL.- World Ocean Day is this Saturday and the Marine Institute will be holding a celebration.

The event will kick off at 8 am with a beach clean-up at Beach Plum Island. Officials from MERR will provide participants with trash bags and gloves.

After the beach clean-up festivities at the MERR facilities begin at 10 am attendees can enjoy various activities such as crafts, family-friendly games, an oceanic-themed scavenger hunt, and educational exhibits.

There will also be a film screening at 1 pm, they will be showing Saving the Right Whale presented by Marcus Reamer a whale and dolphin conservation expert.

Rob Rector a naturalist and a board member with the Institute says that small changes can make a big impact on our environment.

“There are small changes that we could make every day would have a resident impact on our environment. So even if it’s something as simple as ditching single-source water bottles” says Rector.
