Massive fire causes $400k in damages to Federalsburg chicken house

FEDERALSBURG, Md. – A massive fire destroyed a chicken house in Federalsburg early Sunday morning.

The blaze was reported just before 5:30 a.m., at 27725 Possum Hill Road. Firefighters worked for approximately 90 minutes to control the fire, which was determined to have been caused by an electrical/mechanical failure in the pump room of the chicken house.

Crews say total damage has been estimated at $400,000, and approximately 28,000 chickens were killed in the fire.
