Man charged in connection to triple fatal crash in Wicomico Co.

SALISBURY, Md. – Maryland State Police have charged a man in connection to a three person fatal crash last month in Wicomico County.

Shortly before 3 a.m. on May 19th, troopers responded to a report of a head on crash on southbound Route 13, south of St. Luke’s Road. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, 59-year-old Jay Bynum, was driving a 2013 Dodge Durango north in the southbound lanes of Route 13 when he crashed into a 2016 Subaru Impreza.

The driver of the Subaru, 21-year-old Dean Dennison, and passenger, 20-year-old Sierra Merchant, both of New York, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their 1-year-old child, Grayson Dennison, was taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional before being transferred to Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Bynum was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of his injuries.

Bynum has been charged with three counts of negligent manslaughter by auto, three counts of criminal negligent manslaughter by vehicle, three counts of negligent auto homicide by motor vehicle under the influence, three counts of homicide by motor vehicle while impaired, driving under the influence, and driving while intoxicated. He is being held without bond.
