Man arrested after fleeing attempted traffic stop, hitting police vehicle

DOVER, Del. – A Viola man was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly led police on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

At around 10:15 p.m., a trooper on patrol on Route 13 near POW/MIA Parkway saw a black GMC Terrain fail to stop at a stop sign. It was further learned that the vehicle was reported stolen.

The trooper subsequently tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled in a reckless manner on several Dover area streets before hitting a marked Dover Police Department vehicle on Wyoming Avenue and New Burton Road. After hitting the Dover PD vehicle, the driver fled on foot, but was quickly taken into custody.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Jacob McCulley, was found in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia following a search of the vehicle and his person. He was charged with receiving stolen property over $1500, disregarding a police officer signal, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and numerous traffic violations. He was held on a $5,458 secured bond.

We’re told no one was injured in this incident.
