Good Morning Delmarva discusses Preventing Summer Brain Injuries
47ABC – It’s getting close to summer and many of us will want to try fun activities, but the Brain Injury Association of Maryland wants to remind us that head injuries are most common in the summer.
We spoke with Bryan Pugh, the executive director, about ways to lower your risk for a head injury this season.
Bryan tells us that head injuries are any force or blow to the head.
He says some signs of a head injury could be dizziness, blurred vision, or headaches.
Since there’s a lot more opportunities to get involved in active sports and the outdoors during the summer – there’s more risk.
Pugh says a good rule of thumb is don’t run!
There are many slippery surfaces at places such as pool where you can fall.
It’s also good to jump in feet first!
He says that you should never dive your head into ocean water, because it’s unclear what’s at the bottom.
Bryan also shared some items you can use to help protect yourself when having fun!
