Funding approved for new Pocomoke Library, outdoor amphitheater in Salisbury

MARYLAND – The Board of Public Works has approved funding for two projects on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Senator Mary Beth Carozza says $3.9 million has been approved for the new Pocomoke Library. We’re told this funding would follow the removal of an underground fuel tank and completion of a risk assessment for new construction by the Maryland Department of the Environment.

“The new Pocomoke library will be a state-of-the-art facility that will meet the current and future needs of local residents, and I am grateful for the Board of Public Works’ approval and for all the community partners who have worked so hard on this priority local project,” said Senator Carozza.

Additionally, $95,000 has been approved for an outdoor amphitheater to be used by Horizons Delmarva and The Salisbury School. The Salisbury School is the primary host site for Horizons Delmarva, a program to boost the academic performance of students from low-income households. The partnership has been in place for nearly 20 years to close the income-driven academic achievement gap for the Horizons six-week Summer Learning Program and year-round student engagement activities.

“This amphitheater will be a permanent gathering place for important community events and school activities like performances, assemblies, classes, and guest speakers,” said Carozza. “The participants in the STEM-based Horizons Summer Learning Program, The Salisbury School students, and the community as a whole will benefit from this community asset.”
