First international song produced and recorded on the Eastern Shore

SALISBURY, Md. – Close to 10 years ago WMDT met Crisfield native Trey Campbell, or ‘Big Trey’ a reggae artist, and a few years later, he shifted to producing. While he spent years performing and expanding his horizons, his love for the eastern shore keeps bringing him back to help others do the same. Now, he’s helped to record and produce the first international song here on the Eastern Shore.

The first international song, recorded and produced right here on the shore. Something local reggae artist turned producer Trey Campbell also known as ‘Big Trey’ says was a long time coming considering the talent we have here. “It’s a big win for the eastern shore, it’s a big win for the people here, it’s almost like a dream come true to a certain extent and then sometimes it seems surreal and it’s just a blessing,” says Trey. “The Eastern Shore has a big talent pool, and many artists can’t get their music heard or have difficulty. However, I and other crews and different producers locally, helping others to get it out will be like the first time we have a decent international hit song.”

“Teddy Bear” which dropped at the end of May by VP records, is a collaboration of multiple voices, local and abroad to put on a fun dance-hall reggae vibe. “I’ve always wanted to work on a dance hall type of track like that and to work with artists from Jamaica was a whole lot of fun and a great opportunity,” says DJ KP, a local DJ, producer, and sound engineer. “I’m just trying to show them that you can take it to the next level, and you don’t have to leave Salisbury. You can work with artists all around the world remotely, through the internet.”

DJ KP tells us his efforts have always been to provide the right resources for local talent to thrive in their passion for music, hence his collaboration with Trey
and reggae artist, Dem Marshall. “There’s so much talent here, but there’s not an avenue where people can really say you know what this is the way to go to express this talent, it’s all about connections,” says Marshall.

While it wasn’t easy, we’re told the work behind the scenes with Jamaican artist, Adena Myrie, creates more possibilities for future artists to show the world
what the Eastern Shore truly has to offer. “Pray to make the right ears hear your song, you’ll be surprised as to what can transpire from there,” says Marshall. “I think it’s going to open more doors and create more opportunity. I think people watching are going to be more motivated saying they can do it too.”

Trey, DJ KP and Dem say they hope to put on more live performances in the area, and are currently working on putting together a music video.

You can listen to their new song on any streaming platform.
