UPDATE: Homicide investigation underway in Wicomico County

 

4:30 p.m. UPDATE: Deputies have released additional information regarding this homicide.

The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Brookes Lamar Dashiell of Salisbury.

Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis spoke with WMDT about the incident, saying, “It’s very, very sad, but this time of year we do have an uptick in the number of shootings because of the open air drug markets on various locations throughout the County . . . Whether they were dealing drugs or not, no one deserves to be shot and killed.”

SALISBURY, Md. – A homicide investigation is underway in the area of Mineola Avenue and Powhatan Boulevard. Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis says a man was found shot in the driver’s seat of a pick up truck on Mineola Avenue Friday afternoon. The victim received multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. A male suspect was seen running away from the scene on foot.

Sheriff Lewis says they do not believe there is a danger to the public, they believe the victim was targeted. He also said there was evidence of a drug transaction taking place.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and asking the public to avoid the area. During the initial call West Salisbury Elementary, Chipman Elementary, and Salisbury Middle Schools were placed in “Shelter in Place” status, but they were back to normal before the end of the school day.
