Community colleges across Maryland to offer contraceptives to students
MARYLAND. – A new Maryland law requiring community colleges to provide contraceptives to students is actually catching up to Wor-Wic.
The institution has been providing resources, like condoms, for about a year, but mental health counselor, Penny Walters, said this new state initiative will allow Wor-Wic to explore different distribution options.
“The bookstore is not open all the hours that we have students on campus, so we’re trying to figure out if there’s another source, like a vending machine, that could have them available all of the hours that we’re open,” Walters said.
Hoping to eliminate all barriers, Walters said Wor-Wic will now be a place where students know they can get the support they need.
“Wor-Wic helps them in the long run because they don’t have transportation, they may have limited access to funding, so it’s very helpful for them,” Walters said.
