Youth NFL flag football season comes to an end

SALISBURY, Md. – The first ever youth NFL flag football program came to an end, Saturday.

Broncos coach, Kevin Calhoun, said the kids who participated learned more about the sport and themselves.

“They’re very receptive to it. I feel like we’ve seen more and more kids come out this week and I can’t wait for next year’s game, for people to sign up for it,” Calhoun said.

Rams coach, RJ Chittams, got to watch all of his players, including his own daughter, interact with each other in healthy ways out on the field. Through some losses, the team learned the value of good sportsmanship.

“Our team has lost a lot of our games, but seeing them show up every week and work hard, that’s been our team motto,” Chittams said. “Work hard and play hard, and it’s great to see them show up each week and improve.”

Now, at the end of the program, Chittams said next year, all of the teams will come back stronger, and hopefully with even more participants.

“We started with a small group of kids, a lot of them didn’t really know football, but teaching them football, seeing their confidence, seeing them learn, has been great,” Chittams said.
