LINCOLN, Del. – A Lincoln man is behind bars on charges stemming from a traffic stop Sunday morning.

Just after 11 a.m., troopers stopped a vehicle on Coastal Highway near Eagles Nest Road for speeding. While walking up to the vehicle, the trooper reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the car. The trooper made contact with the driver, 33-year-old Joshua Witty, observing smoke coming from the center armrest and traces of marijuana on Witty’s clothing. Witty complied with the trooper’s request to get out of the car, however, he reportedly tried to evade arrest by fleeing back to his vehicle. He was successfully taken into custody.

A search of Witty and the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded 9mm handgun, a loaded .45mm handgun, approximately $706 in suspected drug money, and various drug paraphernalia. Troopers also found approximately 863 bags (6 grams) of heroin, approximately 3 Levorphanol Tartrates, approximately 25 grams of crack, approximately 54 grams of cocaine, and approximately 1.6 grams of methamphetamine.

Witty was held at SCI on a $171,502 cash bond on a list of drug, weapons, and traffic offenses.
