Suspect arrested in fatal Eden hit-and-run

EDEN, Md. – Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a suspect in connection to a fatal hit-and-run crash in December 2023.

The crash happened during the evening hours of December 4, 2023, in the area of S. Upper Ferry Road and Siloam Road. Deputies responded to the scene and found the victim, identified as Aaron Douglas III, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Douglas was flown to a medical facility for treatment, where he died from his injuries on December 13th.

Deputies learned that the suspect vehicle fled the scene, and a vehicle description was provided by witnesses. A potential suspect vehicle was found a short time later, and the vehicle was seized pending crime scene analysis.

On May 6th, the results of the investigation were presented to the Wicomico County Grand Jury, leading to an indictment for Catherine Thornton. Thornton was arrested on May 8th and charged with homicide – MV/Vessel drugs, homicide – MV/Vessel CDS, negligent manslaughter, alter physical evidence, and related CDS and traffic charges.
