Stephen Decatur blows out Colonel Richardson to win Bayside Championship
SALISBURY, Md. – The Deactur Seahawks capture the 2024 Bayside Championship over Colonel Richardson winning 13-4.
The first three and a half innings were a pitcher’s due, neither team could score until the Seahawks broke the seal. But once the fifth inning hit, the Seahawks scored eight runs to blow this game wide open.
The Colonels scored four runs in the sixth inning to make it a 9-4 game. But in the sixth inning, the Colonels scored four runs. But in the final frame, the Seahawks added another four runs to take down the Colonels by nine.
Decatur Head Coach Rich Ferro said he was proud of the way his team played.
“Building confidence, and that’s the biggest thing. once the guys feel confident in there we’ll be more successful. We were swinging at pitches in the zone, we weren’t chasing. We made them play defense. Matt going in there and pitch and giving him run support, that’s the biggest thing. Hopefully, we can build from it, but one-game sets in the playoffs are tough. So any given day we can go out here and be great, and next week go out there and not be very good. We have to learn to be consistent, not too high not too low, and realize we have to deal with the ups and downs of baseball,” Ferro said.
