LEWES, Del. – A Smyrna man has been arrested on charges stemming from shoplifting incidents in two counties.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Monday, troopers were called to Lowes, located at 20364 Plantations Road in Lewes, for a reported shoplifting. Before arriving at the store, troopers were told that a man was in the store stealing merchandise and fled on foot. After obtaining a suspect description, troopers found him at the bus stop near the store and took him into custody. He was identified as 44-year-old Augustine Haymond.

A search of Haymond led to the discovery of stolen merchandise, a small amount of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. It was further learned that Haymond had stolen the merchandise on display by cutting the security cable.

A computer check revealed that Haymond was wanted for shoplifting in a similar manner from Lowes on Hessler Boulevard in New Castle.

Haymond was charged with two counts of possession of shoplifters tools, three counts of non-compliance with conditions of bond, theft, shoplifting under $1500, second degree criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of criminal mischief under $1000. He was later released on an $11,500 unsecured bond.
