Seaford School District to continue using metal detectors through the end of the school year

SEAFORD, Del. – The Seaford School District has announced that they will continue to use their weapons detection system through the end of the school year.
This comes after a student was arrested for reportedly bringing a gun and knife to Seaford High School last week.
The district implemented their weapons detection system – which consists of a metal detector – following the incident.
Seaford School District officials are now encouraging students to downsize to a smaller bookbag, have electronics out as they enter the building, and consider using plastic drinking containers instead of metal ones.
“It seems prudent to continue with the current practice rather than switching back and forth and the stress that might create,” explained Seaford School District Superintendent, Dr. DiGirolamo in a prepared statement issued Friday. “I absolutely recognize that using the metal detectors presents its own stress; the goal is for the potential benefit to outweigh the drawbacks.”
Dr. DiGirolamo encouraged parents to continue to share their thoughts and ideas moving forward as the district continues to ensure all students and staff are safe.
