Seaford School District Superintendent releases statement on incident at Seaford High
SEAFORD, Del. – Seaford School District Superintendent Dr. DiGirolamo has released a statement following Thursday’s incident at Seaford High School.
We’re told it took about 45 minutes for all students to enter through the weapons detection systems at the school Friday morning. The process reportedly went very smoothly, with most in their classrooms by 8 a.m.
Dr. DiGirolamo also said the following:
“I appreciate the words of support that have been offered. It is clear our community shares our commitment to student and staff safety. You’ve also asked why we weren’t already using metal detectors on a regular basis. Thank you for asking this important question. Our current system is a portable model that needs to be charged daily; it was initially purchased as a public safety measure during large events such as graduation or football games. I am thankful we were able to pivot that use to the high school today. With that said, I look forward to continued conversations as we investigate a more permanent solution for weapons detection. My door is open and I’m happy to take your calls or read your emails.”
