UPDATE: Seaford High School student found in possession of firearm, knife

UPDATE: Seaford Police have identified the suspect in this incident as 18-year-old Fernando Etienne.

Police say Etienne was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon (firearm), carrying a concealed deadly weapon (knife), possession of a firearm in a safe recreation zone, and possession of a weapon in a safe recreation zone.

He was later released on his own recognizance.

SEAFORD, Del. – Seaford School District has released a statement after a Seaford High School student was found in possession of a firearm and a knife on Thursday.

We’re told the discovery was made during a disciplinary procedure. The School Resource Officer immediately intervened and detained the student, and Seaford Police were called to the school to investigate.

The district released the following statement regarding the incident:

“The safety of all students and staff is paramount in our district, and swift action was taken to address the situation. The student was arrested and legal actions are being taken. Our school district is fully cooperating with law enforcement to ensure a thorough investigation into this matter. Disciplinary actions will be addressed per our Student Code of Conduct and Delaware State Law.”

The School District says it is implementing its Weapons Detection System at Seaford High School Friday morning as a result of this incident. Additionally, these metal detectors will be used randomly throughout the rest of the school year, adding an extra layer of security to the school community.
