Recycling Reminder and the Benefits to our Environment
DELAWARE – An important reminder about recycling from disposal experts.
Every year, Delaware produces over a million tons of pound of trash and has at least three landfills. Shockingly, only about 39% of residents recycle and even less than that care to recycle, according to Delaware’s Natural Resource and Environmental Council.
“Well, the unfortunate part is that we’re not going to a good Mother Earth to our children, and our children’s children- because we are going to run out of landfill space… We are going to pollute our rivers, our streams, our waterways… It’s important that we divert the recycling out of the trash. We only have so much landfill space where we can bury it and burning causes pollution. Long run, it is so much better if we recycle, get it out of the way stream, do what’s good for the environment today, and for many generations to come. ”
Most household recyclable items include cardboard, plastic, aluminum metal, and paper. Blue Hen disposals General Manager Lisa Mears is urging people to properly dispose of the items…
as they can be repurposed for use in other forms – and avoid depleting other resources.
