Queen Anne’s Lions fall in State Championship Game

OWINGS MILL, Md. – The Queen Anne’s Lady Lions are named the 2024 MPSSAA 2A State Runner-Ups after losing to the Glenelg Gladiators 13-3 in the title game.

The Lions fell behind 4-2 after the first quarter. RJ Ensor had a goal and an assist for the Lions to help keep them within striking distance.

But the Gladiators blew the game wide open during the second quarter, scoring four straight goals to take an 8-2 halftime lead over the Lions.

Things only got worse for Queen Anne’s as they gave up another five goals in the third and fourth quarters before Madison Brown tallied another goal for the Lions with a few minutes left.

The Lions end the season 15-3, winning the Bayside Conference, an MPSSAA Regional Championship, and the 2A State Runner-Up Trophy.

Lions Head Coach Kesley Fitzgerald said people will see the Lions again.

We earned a spot here and I have a very strong feeling we’ll be back. I have trust in this program that it won’t be the last time that we’re here either. I want to thank all of the parents and fans and the girls,” she said.

She added she saw “complete growth, complete team camaraderie, hard work, perseverance, resilience, all the things the coach wants and all the things that anybody wants in a season so all of them should be very proud of themselves. Coaching staff, parents who are all here today, spectators, fans that traveled and are listening in are very very proud,” Fitzgerald said.
