Officials highlight the importance of celebrating museums on Delmarva
DELMARVA. – Saturday marks international museum day.
With so much history on the Eastern Shore, museums are important in showcasing and preserving all of Delmarva’s past.
Chief historian at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Pete Lesher, said taking a day to recognize the crucial role that museums play helps ensure they never become obsolete.
“As history museums, we play a role in preserving memory, and understanding something about who we are and how we got to where we are,” Lesher said. “Historians do this, generally, but museums do this by preserving physical evidence.”
Lesher encourages people to visit a museum this weekend to celebrate the special day.
