Ocean City moving forward with parking code changes
OCEAN CITY, Md – The Town of Ocean City is moving forward with changes to its parking code.
At the first reading of the ordinance, the City Council and mayor voted unanimously in favor of the changes. Several years ago, the town increased meter violations from $25 to $50 and the new code would bring fines for other violations up to $50 as well.
The updated code would also allow new citations to be issued for the same violation–every 12 hours instead of 24 hours. Town officials cited consistency as the goal for continued enforcement of parking fines.
“You know, you’re looking for turnover. You’re looking to see–you don’t want it to lead to people possibly sleeping in cars or just occupying that space for an extended period of time,” said Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan.
Meehan added that writing tickets is not the town’s goal, they just want people to park correctly, safely, and pay their meters.
