Memorial day marks start of 100 deadliest days on the roadways

MARYLAND- School is almost out, and roadway risks are expected to increase for teenage drivers.
The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is considered the one-hundred most deadliest day on the road.
Car crashes involving teens from ages 15 to 19 increase during this time, and some of them are even fatal.
Between 2013 and 2022 97 Maryland teens were killed in crashes in a 10-year period.
A spokesperson for triple-A mid-Atlantic Ragina Ali says that these crashes can happen from several reasons.
“The Triple-A Foundation did some research and found that speed in many cases is a factor, where teens are reported speeding within the last thirty days. Distraction is also a factor as well but speed is certainly one of them” says Ragina.
Teens should be mindful of the dangers on the roads and parents should be engaged with their teenage drivers.
Ragina says “Again summer time lost of discretion lots of a little more freedom during that time period without structure so it’s super important that parents remain engaged with their teen that their still modeling good behaviors themselves behind the wheel.”
