Mardela Warriors capture the 1A Regional Championship
MARDELA SPRINGS, Md. – The Mardela Warriors shut out North Dorchester 3-0 to win the 1A East Regional Championship for the third year in a row.
Ava Twilley pitched a no-hitter, striking out 12 batters in total. She added a solo home run in the sixth inning. Karsyn Shockley had 2 doubles and Elana Donalds went 2 for 2 with a sacrifice fly. Abby Campbell, Audrey Senft, and Julia Wisk each had a hit.
“Pitching was dominant. As I was telling the others, we’re really happy that Ava is on our side and Hayden too, we have a dynamic 1-2 punch there. Ava came out today following up Hayden’s perfect game the other day and threw her own no-hitter today. A phenomenal performance by her. We made the plays we needed to in the field and we had some clutch hits,” Mardela Head Coach Kory Shiles said.
“I think did a really good job on the mound, I held them to no runs but also I had help with my defense being able to get the balls that were put in play to make them outs, and thanks to my catchers to help me get the win,” Twiley said.
