Laurel School District Superintendent arrested on DUI charges
LAUREL, Del. – The Superintendent of the Laurel School District was arrested late Saturday night on DUI charges.
According to Laurel Police, an officer was conducting a traffic stop in the area of Sussex Highway and Camp Road at around 11:30 p.m., driving a fully-marked patrol car with emergency lights activated on the shoulder of the roadway. During the stop, officers saw a red Ford F-150 traveling northbound in the right lane of Sussex Highway, driving past the traffic stop in the right lane without slowing down or moving over as required by law.
A second officer assisting with the traffic stop followed the truck, which was reportedly driving almost entirely in the shoulder, swerving, and back over the shoulder “rumble strips”. The vehicle’s registration was also expired.
The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 53-year-old Shawn Larrimore of Seaford. Multiple indicators of alcohol impairment were observed, and a DUI investigation led to the arrest of Larrimore for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Police say Larrimore refused a chemical test, and a blood sample was obtained via a search warrant, with the results pending at this time.
Larrimore was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to move over/slow down for stopped vehicle displaying warning signal, failure to signal continuously before turning, failure to remain within a single lane, and expired registration. He was released to a sober party with a summons to appear in court at a future date.
WMDT reached out to the School District, who says they have no comment on the matter.
