Investigation underway following five-car crash in Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Maryland State Police are investigating a five-car crash early Thursday morning in Dorchester County.
The crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. on westbound Route 50 at the Malkus Bridge. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford pickup was traveling west on Route 50 when, for unknown reasons, hit a tractor-trailer that was disabled in the roadway. The pickup truck then entered the travel lanes and was hit by oncoming traffic.
The driver of the pickup was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment. One other person was taken by ambulance to the University of Maryland Medical Center in Easton for treatment of their injuries. No other injuries were reported at the scene.
Police say Route 50 was closed for over three hours following the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
