Firefighter injured while battling Caroline Co. house fire

HILLSBORO, Md. – An investigation is underway after a fire heavily damaged a Caroline County home Monday night.

The fire was reported at around 8:15 p.m., at a home in the 21000 block of Main Street in Hillsboro. A total of 60 firefighters responded to the two-alarm blaze, which took roughly one hour to control.

The occupants were home at the time of the fire, initially finding smoke and fire coming from a first floor bedroom. All were able to escape with their dogs.

One firefighter was injured while battling the blaze and was taken to a local medical center for evaluation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Total damage has been estimated at $100,000.
