Emerging Leaders: Positive Outcomes Charter School’s Team Places 4th nationally
47ABC – It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to three new emerging leaders!
Students at Positive Outcomes Charter School came together to represent Delaware and compete against teams across the county for the National Career Development Conference.
Lilyan Farris, Ethan Cannon, and Angeline Connelly placed 4th in the nation!
May is also Autism Acceptance Month which is a time to show appreciation for those around us with autism spectrum disorder and their differences.
These three students just so happen to be on the autism spectrum.
Through Positive Outcomes Charter Schools involvement in the Jobs for Delaware Graduates Program, these three got to show off their skills by creating a full-fledged business plan proposal on Proud Schools, an opportunity near and dear to their hearts.
Proud Schools is a non-profit that strives to create an inclusive environment for the youth by providing educators and families the opportunity to work with students who are a part of the LGBTQ+ or students with a disability.
The team’s business plan proposal included a value proposition, cost structure, customer segments, and even key metrics.
This intensive plan took over two weeks and Farris says it was stressful, but the win made it all worth it.
They won 1st place for the state of Delaware before the National Career Development Conference.
This is only the second year in a row that Positive Outcomes, one of the smallest charter schools in the state, were able to send the most students to nationals.
Ethan says he was proud to represent their school as it has been such a positive environment for him since coming out about his identity.
The team says they wanted to be able to bring the same welcoming and affirming behavior to others who have been in situations just like them.
Their motto is “We want to be the people we needed when we were younger.”
