DOVER, Del. – A Camden man is behind bars on his third DUI after he allegedly crashed into two police vehicles Thursday night.

At around 8:45 p.m., a Dover Police Tahoe was traveling southbound in the left lane on South Dupont Highway, with a Delaware State Police Tahoe following behind. A Volkswagen, being driven by 55-year-old William Geissel Jr., was traveling northbound in the left southbound lane of South Dupont Highway, approaching the police vehicles. The Dover PD vehicle swerved to avoid the crash, but Geissel crashed into its rear fender. Geissel then crashed into the right side of the DSP vehicle.

Contact was made with Geissel, who was showing signs of impairment. Following field sobriety tests, Geissel was taken into custody, at which time it was learned that he had two previous DUI convictions.

Geissel was charged with third offense DUI, two counts of second degree vehicular assault, and multiple traffic offenses, and was held at SCI on a $4,101 secured bond.

Both officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash and were later released. Geissel was not injured.
