RIDGELY, Md. – The Town of Ridgely and the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office have signed an agreement to ensure ongoing safety and security for the community.

In March, the Commissioners of Ridgely announced the suspension of the entire Ridgely Police Department, pending an investigation by the Office of the Maryland State Prosecutor. In order to guarantee uninterrupted public safety services, the Commissioners initiated a temporary agreement with the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office.

Now, the Town and the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office have established a long-term partnership through an updated agreement, providing the town with complete law enforcement coverage by the Sheriff’s Office for the 2025 fiscal year, with the option to renew annually. We’re told the agreement includes a provision for maintaining 480 hours of coverage per month, with emphasis on the commitment to ongoing vigilance and responsiveness to the community’s needs while delivering overall yearly cost savings to the Town of Ridgely.

The updated agreement will take effect on July 1st, with the current MOU remaining in effect until then.
