Cape Henlopen referendum defeated

CAPE HENLOPEN, Del. – The Cape Henlopen School District referendum has been defeated.
The school district issued a statement Tuesday night on social media where they expressed disappointment with the outcome.
“We are extremely disappointed in the results and will take some time over the next few weeks to determine both short-term and long-term plans moving forward,” the school district’s statement read.
This was the school district’s second attempt to pass the measure. In March, the district held a similar referendum that the public voted against.
The referendum sought to institute a new tax rate to keep class sizes small, cover facility costs, and hire staff to keep up with the continuous enrollment growth.
