CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A Cambridge man is behind bars after he allegedly led police on a chase late Monday night.

The investigation began just before 11 p.m. when officers tried to stop a motorized scooter around Rigby Avenue and Camelia Street for not having any taillights and driving erratically. The operator failed to stop and reportedly continued driving recklessly, running stop signs and disobeying traffic laws. The operator continued fleeing on the scooter until the 500 block of Saunders Avenue, at which time the operator lost control of the scooter and jumped off, fleeing on foot. While fleeing, officers noticed the suspect reaching into the waistband area of his clothing.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Chavonne Corbin-Stanley, was taken into custody in the 800 block of Park Lane. Police say a large crowd had gathered in the area due to Corbin-Stanley’s actions.

A search of Corbin-Stanley led to the recovery of an empty handgun holster and a plastic bag containing crack cocaine. The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office was called in to help with a search of the area where Corbin-Stanley was fleeing on foot, where a loaded 9mm handgun was found, containing a total of 16 rounds.

It was also learned that Corbin Stanley had multiple active warrants, one out of Anne Arundel County District Court for failing to appear for driving motor vehicle on highway without a license, and a body attachment for failure to appear out of Talbot County.

Corbin-Stanley was held without bond on numerous charges, including loaded handgun on person, resisting arrest, reckless driving, various drug offenses and various traffic offenses.
