After The Whistle: Penn State Lehigh Valley Commit Journey Handy

GEORGETOWN, Del.- Meet Delmarva Christian’s Journey Handy, the 2024 ESIAC Player of the Year, and Penn State Lehigh Valley Nittany Lion Commit.

Her time with the Royals has been great, adding to her Player of the Year trophy, she’s also made first-team all-conference, won the ESIAC title, and now is the latest athlete from her family to play sports in college eventually.

“I’m just glad that me and my brothers could carry our family name with so much respect. Everybody knows when they think of Handys, they think of basketball. I’m just so glad that we can do that because it’s crazy. Our dad, since young, pushed us to play basketball, and I’m just glad that we can do something with it. And we made something with our lives with basketball,” she said.

She comes from a long line of great Delmarva-based athletes, her brother Jayson Handy played WiHi Tribe and the Royals, scoring over 1000 points, and currently is playing collegiate basketball.

Her other brother Jayden played football and basketball for WiHi and now is playing college football. Journey has been following in their footsteps to become a great basketball player in high school and potentially at the Division Three level.

“I’ve always loved basketball since a kid. I’ve been introduced to it by my brothers. I don’t remember a day that I went without basketball. It’s crazy. I started really young. So I just love basketball. I mean, that’s all I can say about And through these four years, I think I have grown as a player. And that’s just been amazing to me, watching where I came from and where I am now. I really think it’s cool to look back,” she said.

Just like her brother Jayson, she played for WiHi before transferring to Delmarva Christian, a move that has helped her blossom as a player.

“I knew it was a good environment, but I didn’t know how it was going to be coming here. And honestly, it’s been a great fit and was just amazing. The coaching Even the school, the staff, everybody’s amazing here,” she said.
