2024 Kidney Walk Preview

Kidney Disease Awareness

Salisbury, MD.- The 2024 Salisbury Kidney Walk is just around the corner.

Cris Henderson of Laurel is sharing her story after helping her husband battle kidney cancer.

Her husband Rick had one of his kidneys removed to treat the cancer.

At that same time, they discovered that his second kidney was only functioning at 24%.

Throughout their journey, Cris and her husband found help through a local support group by following a healthy diet Rick was able to avoid dialysis for 2 years.

Rick sadly lost his battle with the disease in 2018, but Cris still spreads awareness about the disease.

She says it’s important that you go get your labs and that you understand what they are testing for.

Cris says “so I’m not a person to just go in the doctor’s office and wait for him to tell me whats what but a lot of people do they’re intimated by a doctor. They look at him as your the one that’s supposed to know my test and my results you’re supposed to be the one that’s telling me.”

Cris is also the volunteer Walk chair of the Salisbury Kidney Walk.
WMDT is a proud sponsor of this year’s kidney walk the event is on Sunday, June 2nd at Winter Place Park, and it starts at 9 am.
