Three juveniles arrested on firearm charges stemming from Dover traffic stop
DOVER, Del. – Dover Police arrested three juveniles on charges stemming from a traffic stop Saturday night.
According to police, the investigation began when an officer on patrol saw a vehicle traveling on North Dupont Highway with no lights on. Officers subsequently stopped the vehicle, and throughout the course of the stop, it was determined that the vehicle would be searched. All three occupants, a 17-year-old male from Middletown, a 17-year-old male from Newark, and a 15-year-old male from Middletown, were asked to step out of the vehicle for the search, at which point the 17-year-old driver allegedly tried to run away, but was quickly taken into custody.
Police found the driver to be in possession of a Glock 19 handgun concealed in his pants that was later found to be reported stolen. Officers also found another handgun equipped with a switch, giving it the ability to be fired in an automatic manner, inside the vehicle. The 15-year-old was also found in possession of 3.4 grams of marijuana.
The 17-year-old from Middletown was charged with multiple firearm offenses, resisting arrest, and traffic charges, and was held at the Stevenson House Correctional Facility on a $100,502 secured bond.
The 17-year-old from Newark was charged with multiple firearm and drug offenses and was held at the Stevenson House Correctional Facility on a $100,001 secured bond.
The 15-year-old was charged with possession of marijuana under 18 years old and was released on a criminal summons.
