SU softball rises to no. 1, Mace named NFCA POTW
SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University softball team has risen to number one in the latest Division-III national rankings. This is the first time the team has risen to the top of the ranks this year, having earned all 25 first place votes.
Since their early season stumble the team has not been messing around, riding a 17-game winning streak, and now holding a 22-1 record overall.
Many of these players were on last year’s squad that spent ten weeks ranked at the top of the Division-III rankings.
The leader of the softball squad is the slugging center fielder, and Smyrna High graduate, Abby Mace.
Mace recently became the program’s all time home run leader.
The announcement coming Tuesday that she was named this week’s Louisville Slugger and National Fastpitch Coaches Association player of the week.
Mace batted 8-for-11 last week, driving in eight runs and scoring ten times.
Mace ranks third in the nation with 10 home runes, and leads the nation in runs per game and slugging percentage.
