Marty Rendon discusses campaign for Delaware’s 14th District House seat
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The race for Delaware’s 14th District in the House of Representatives is proving to be a real contest.
Marty Rendon is one of three candidates vying for the seat’s Democratic nomination. After decades working in Washington D.C. as a Congressional aide, the Rehoboth Beach resident tells our news department that he knows the legislative process very well.
“People came to me and said ‘Marty, you have a background in legislation, why don’t you run for office,'” Rendon said. “And I do, for the past five years, I’ve been a Commissioner on the Delaware Human and Civil Rights Commission, and I’ve chaired the Commission’s legislative committee.”
Governor John Carney appointed Rendon to be a Commissioner on the Delaware Human and Civil Rights Commission back in 2019.
Through his experience there, along with his time on Capitol Hill, Rendon believes he’s best suited to move the 14th District forward on the state level, especially when it comes to civil rights issues.
“My focus has been on human needs, civil rights, human development, fulfilling human needs, and working to make the world a better place,” Rendon emphasized. “My entire background has been in service through legislation.”
Not only would civil rights issues be at the forefront of Rendon’s efforts, if elected, he tells us he’s ready to focus on ways to address issues that pertain to the 14th District, specifically concerns surrounding traffic, congestion, and development.
“The thing I hear everybody talking about here in Sussex County is the traffic, the congestion, the over-development,” Rendon said. “What can we do from the perspective in Dover to address those issues? And, of course, along with that, are environmental concerns.”
Rendon vows to keep his ear to the people and lead with transparency, if elected.
“Marty is ready to work for you,” Rendon emphasized. “I bring a lifetime of experience and know-how in the legislative process. So, you hire me, you send me to Dover, I’ll get the job done for you. You tell me how I can serve you. It’s about you, it’s not about me.”
Marty Rendon is running in the Democratic primary against two other candidates – Claire Synder-Hall and Kathy McGuiness.
Delaware’s primary election will be held on September 10, 2024.
