Law enforcement warn against drinking and driving ahead of local proms

FRUITLAND, Md. – It’s Prom season, and if you have a teen who will be attending this year, Fruitland police have an important message.

Law enforcement are reminding teens that underage drinking is illegal and dangerous, and you should never drive after consuming alcohol.

Officer Caleb Walston said not only does driving under the influence put yourself in danger, but the people on the road around you as well.

He’s called on parents to have those important conversations with their teens, ahead of their big day.

“It’s a very selfish thing to do, especially for them, not even for their own safety, but putting others in safety,” officer Walston said. “We’ve had a lot of local deaths from drinking and driving, and we’re not for that at all.”

Officer Walston said if you do plan on drinking, make sure you have a designated driver.
