LAUREL, Del. – A 17-year-old was injured after being hit by a car that drove into a convenience store Thursday night. Laurel Police say the 78-year-old driver parked outside the First Stop Gas Station, but didn’t put his car in park before getting out. When he tried to jump back in to press the brake, he pressed the accelerator instead. The car went up on the sidewalk and into the building, striking the teen who had been leaning against the building.

Police say the teen sustained serious injuries from the crash and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver has received two traffic citations, one for inattentive driving and the other for failure to have insurance identification in possession.

Officials say the investigation is still ongoing and if you have any information to call Police at 302-875-2244.
