Good Morning Delmarva speaks with local historian about the annual Civil Rights on the Shore event
47ABC – The annual Civil Rights on the Shore celebration is returning May 8th!
It’s a time to learn more about the rich history of African Americans on Delmarva and the civil rights movement.
This morning, local historian Dr. Clara Small and Lisa Challenger, executive director for the Beach to Bay Heritage Area, stopped by Good Morning Delmarva to tell us more about the event!
Dr. Clara Small says that the event is meant to inform others of our history on the shore.
She says the event will focus on protests from the civil rights movement in Crisfield, Cambridge, and Princess Anne.
Lisa says that many aren’t aware of the events that took place on Delmarva during that time period.
The event will include Dr. Clara Small and a singer, Dr. Wright, who will have an inspiring performance.
They say they are both very excited to host the event inside the Charles H. Chipman Cultural Center, which is the oldest standing African American church on Delmarva!
