Good Morning Delmarva discusses tips for allergy prevention

47ABC – It’s spring and that means allergy season is here!
We sat down with a local CVS Pharmacist to learn more about Allergy Prevention and the possible treatment options here on Delmarva.
Pharmacist Courtney Lowery tells us that Delmarva’s pollen conditions over the last week have increased and could be a concern for those suffering from allergies.
She says many waits until their symptoms are severe, but it’s best to take preventative action with treatment.
The pharmacist says you can start 2 to 4 weeks ahead of the season.
Lowery explained to us the various types of treatment options available which include histamines, decongestions, etc.
Lowery says that the decongestants can help with nasal and sinus congestion, but they can cause irritability or can increase high blood pressure.
She also says over the counter nasal sprays can help with reducing the inflammation caused by the allergen, but stresses that it’s important to ask your doctor or a pharmacist what is the right option for you.
You can also do video visits with Minute Clinic to talk with a nurse practitioner for recommendations.
