Four juveniles arrested for stealing vehicle in Laurel

LAUREL, Del. – A stolen vehicle investigation led to the arrest of four juveniles in Laurel earlier this week.

The investigation began shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday, when a victim reported that their 2015 Kia Soul was stolen overnight in the Little Creek Apartment complex. Officers were able to obtain surveillance footage of the incident, which showed that the vehicle was stolen at approximately 2:15 a.m.

At around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, an officer on patrol saw the stolen Kia traveling in the area of W. 6th Street and subsequently tried to stop the vehicle, however, the driver began fleeing recklessly toward Janosik Park. Police say the car tried to make a sharp turn at a high rate of speed, hit a curb, and rolled into the Laurel Historical Society’s grass lawn. Four subjects were assisted out of the rear window of the vehicle by responding officers. The occupants were then taken to an area hospital for a precautionary evaluation before being turned over to police custody.

The four occupants, identified as a 14-year-old male, 16-year-old female, 13-year-old male, and 14-year-old male, were charged with receiving stolen property over $1500 and second degree conspiracy. Police say it was also discovered that the 13-year-old male had an active warrant out of a neighboring agency, and the female had an active capias out of Sussex County Family Court. Additionally, the 16-year-old male was found to be a reported runaway by the New Castle County Police Department.
