Dover man sentenced following straw purchasing investigation

DELAWARE – A Dover man has been sentenced to prison for straw purchasing firearms.

According to court documents, in 2020, 25-year-old Jordan Harmon bought a total of 19 semi-automatic pistols from a federally licensed firearms dealer in Delaware. Federal firearm laws require gun buys to certify in writing at the time of the purchase that the firearm is being purchased for the buyer and not for someone else. Harmon reportedly falsely certificated on the form that he was buying the 19 firearms for himself, when he was actually illegally buying the firearms for others, a scheme known as “straw purchasing”

Law enforcement has recovered 7 of the 19 semi-automatic pistols and is continuing to search for the remaining firearms.

Harmon was sentenced earlier this month to three years as a result of this investigation.
