Delaware lawmakers reinforce financial training for school board members
DELAWARE – Delaware lawmakers are pushing for a new bill that would reinforce the current financial responsibility training that is required for school board members.
House Bill 312 also concerns itself with “training to understand educational and legal issues about due process and special education.” While the bill does not specifically revamp any of the required training, lawmakers say it creates a framework for more effective and accessible training, allowing school board members to now complete it virtually.
“It’s just meant to make sure that we’re doing something that we’re supposed to be already doing; for the sake of our schoolboard members who have such an enormous responsibility for all of our students and our school systems in general,” said State Senator Laura Sturgeon.
Sturgeon, a sponsor of the bill, stressed how grateful they are to those who step up on a fully volunteer basis to serve on school boards. The bill passed in the house on March 21st and is currently out of committee, ready for consideration in the senate.
