Decatur takes down Parkside in 12 innings
BERLIN, Md. – The Decatur Seahawks survive the Parkside Rams, beating them 1-0 after 12 innings of play.
Jackson Cheung stole home to give the Seahawks the sweep over Parkside.
Neither team could score a run through the first innings because both squads were making play after play to keep each other from scoring. That scoreless streak from both teams extended for another four innings.
In the 10th inning, Parkside place two men on base but couldn’t find home and Decatur loaded the bases with no outs, but Parkside Pitcher Casey Parsons got out of the jam, retiring the side with three straight strikeouts.
In the bottom of the 12th, Cheung was able to steal home from third base because the pitch went to the backstop. After the game, Cheung said he was happy he could be the one to finish off Parkside.
“I seen all of my teammates storm out of the dugout after I slide home, it was unbelievable, especially after a long hard-fought game between both sides. I was happy to go make a play happen. I saw the ball down, saw it in the dirt, it got a little away from the catcher, I hesitated a little bit I won’t lie to you. but you know just letting my speed play, sliding home it was unbelievable, I was happy to finally end the game,” he said
