Cape Henlopen School District to hold referendum

DELAWARE – The Cape Henlopen School District will hold a referendum on a proposed tax increase on May 21st.

In march, the school district held a similar referendum that the public did not vote in favor of. Superintendent Bob Fulton says the new proposed tax rate is necessary for keeping, class sizes small, covering facility costs, and hiring staff to keep up with the continuous enrollment growth that Cape Henlopen has seen year-over-year.

“We have more and more families moving here and we’re increasing by 200-250 students a year. And that has really put pressures on our budget,” said Superintendent Fulton.

Fulton encourages residents to reach out with questions about the referendum. The Cape Henlopen School District website has a calculator where residents can estimate how much the tax increase would cost them.
