Worcester Goes Purple hosts upcoming community conversation

BERLIN, Md.- An upcoming event looks to get public input from the community to help combat the overdose death crisis in Worcester County.

Worcester Goes Purple is hosting a Community Conversation. The organization supports people in recovery and provides education on addiction. Representatives from the sheriff’s office, fire department, health care providers, and members of the recovery community will be in attendance.

President Debbie Smullen said recent data showed that the county has saw a 15% increase in the overdose fatalities from 2022-2023.  “We all want to think that this could never happen to us, our child, or a family member. Unfortunately, that’s just not true,” Smullen said.  “Our goal is that we can at least save one life. If we can prevent one parent from experiencing this devastating loss, then certainly it’s worth it for us,”

That event is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 26th in the Stephen Decatur High School cafeteria at 5:30 pm.
