Seaford man found in possession of drugs following foot chase
SEAFORD, Del. – A Seaford man is behind bars after he led police on a chase late Friday night.
Just after 11 p.m., an officer saw a subject riding a bicycle on the sidewalk and northbound in the southbound lane of Front Street without a light. The officer subsequently activated his emergency equipment, at which time the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Schweitzer Dessin, fled on his bike. A short time later, Dessin reportedly got off of the bicycle and began fleeing on foot down King Street, running through several properties towards Market Street. During the chase, the officer reportedly fell and injured their leg but continued pursuing Dessin. Dessin was apprehended a short time later in the Poplar Street and Arch Street area and found in possession of suspected heroin and crack cocaine.
We’re told that during the chase, two responding Seaford PD units were involved in a crash in the area of Market Street and 3rd Street, during which one of the patrol vehicles hit and damaged a residence. The occupants of the home were not injured. The two officers involved in the crash and the officer injured during the foot chase were all treated at a local hospital for their injuries.
Dessin was held at SCI on a $5,600 secured bond after being charged with third degree assault, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, riding a bike on a sidewalk, and riding a bike without a headlight.
